5 Essential things to consider when planning your breast augmentation surgery
Dr Alex Phoon discusses the essential things to consider when planning your breast augmentation surgery. Dr Phoon will take you through some decision making questions to ask yourself when considering this surgery.
Patients rarely decide on a whim to have surgery. On average, patients take almost one and half years to build up the courage to have their first appointment with a surgeon. This time is crucial however. I like to call it the research or homework phase. In this time, you are researching the best implant type, size, incision and placement that are ideal for the look you want to achieve. It is important that you use this time to study as much information as possible.
What do I need to consider?
You want to consider the overall look you want to achieve. For some people that could be a more athletic, natural look and others may want a more boosted look. Other individuals may seek restoration of their breast shape, commonly after having children or weight loss.
Be cautious of the internet and the procedures your friends may have had because everyone’s surgery is different. Whatever you decide to have should be catered to your individual needs. You need to make sure that your surgeon takes into account what look you want, as well as the implant size that suits your body type. An individual with wider shoulders and a fuller frame can easily have larger implants. For those with a smaller, more athletic frame need to be careful that the implants do not exceed what would look normal for their frame.
Your existing breast shape is also something to consider as everyone is different. This should be accompanied with your breast augmentation desires and body shape in your decision making of implant size.
Choosing your surgeon –
When choosing your surgeon, it is critical that they have full surgical qualifications with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and ideally be a part of the Royal Australian College of Plastic Surgeons.
