Women who experience changes in the volume of their breasts, whether it is caused by age, weight loss, pregnancy or breastfeeding are great candidates for a breast lift, which is also called mastopexy. This procedure raises and reshapes the breasts to provide a vibrant, voluminous and natural look. Candidates can be of any age, and can undergo the procedure to boost their confidence, restore their youthful appearance or simply to enhance their existing look.
The breast lift surgery is designed to return the breast mound to its original, natural position which is located higher on the chest wall than the current, sagging position may indicate. Each patient will be evaluated individually, and informed of their breast lift options that can include lifting and reshaping of the breast or even implants to deliver a pleasing shape and volume.
Procedure: Breast lifts are designed and implemented to reshape and lift the breast tissue, creating a more youthful, aesthetically pleasing breast. In some cases, women feel that the deflation of their natural breasts require more than a reshaping approach, and in these cases implants will be added to create volume. In this case, the breast lift and implant will take place at the same time.
Description: In addition to the reshaping and repositioning of the breasts, even when implants are added, the skin envelope will require reduction to complete the new shape tightly, with maximum support. All three factors, reshaping, repositioning and reducing the skin envelope are all equally important factors in supplying each patient with an exceptional post-operative experience that may provide years of happiness going forward.
Recovery: Each recovery case, and its time, will differ depending on several factors including the type of breast lift, and the integrity of the skin envelope. Scarring may occur around the areola and/or an addition T shape where necessary to provide the optimal lift. Drs Moradi and Phoon will provide full details on physical recovery on an individual basis, which includes what to expect post-operatively.
Depending on the need for breast lift surgery in an individual, some circumstances can be covered by private medical insurance as a reconstructive procedure. Patients should check their policies closely or speak to an insurance representative who can provide the details they need to take advantage of possible coverage. Costs associated with a breast lift vary, but you can be expected to pay around $15000 based on the necessary factors associated with each individualised procedure, including:
- Anaesthetist’s Fees
- Implant Type & Cost, Where Applicable
- Private Hospital or Outpatient Surgical Facility Fees
- Post-operative Garment Necessity
- Surgical Assistant’s Fee
Having a breast augmentation is similar to any other surgical procedure. There are always inherent risks and potential complications for every patient having a surgical procedure. That is why it is critically important that you chose your surgeon carefully so that they are fully qualified with the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. Fully qualified plastic surgeons are highly trained specialists with in excess of 14 years of training and experience before they are allowed to call themselves plastic surgeons. If you do have a complication you can be reassured knowing that you will be looked after by someone who is qualified to do so.
There is no regulation in NSW that can stop a doctor calling themselves a cosmetic surgeon even if they have no formal qualifications whatsoever.
A good start is to look up your doctor on the national database to check their qualifications. You can find this here.https://www.ahpra.gov.au/. The registration of your doctor should be a specialist qualification in plastic surgery.
Dr Moradi and Dr Phoon are both fully qualified plastic surgeons and our clinic is dedicated to giving you the most beautiful natural results in the safest possible environment. All of our surgery is performed in fully accredited hospitals and day surgical facilities with specialist anaesthetists.
Surgery is just the start of your journey. All post-operative consultations are included in the fee as well as all of your nursing care. Should you have a complication that involves a return to the operating theatre we waive our surgical fee. This is all part of standing behind the quality of our work.
There has been a huge amount of interest in the safety of breast augmentation recently. Whilst we are not at liberty to discuss what may or may not have occurred in other cases, we can assure you that we have never performed breast augmentation under twilight sedation and never will. A link to an earlier blog posting about this issue (in Feb 2012) can be found here.
There is no substitute for good care and safe surgery. At Park Clinic Plastic Surgery you can be confident you will receive the excellence in surgical care to give you the very best possible results.
