Neck lift and Facelift Sydney

Lift and revitalise

Neck lifts and Facelifts work to reverse the signs of aging; most commonly sagging or loose skin that has developed around the jaw and neck. Those who undergo these treatments with our skilled surgeons recapture internal vigour and revitalise their appearance for a more youthful natural look.

Face and Neck lifts at Park Clinic Plastic Surgery are conducted by Dr Alex Phoon and Dr Pouria Moradi who have extensive experience in delivering successful and pleasing results for their patients.

How does a Necklift and Facelift work?

Using the latest fat grafting techniques Dr Phoon and Dr Moradi will first reverse some of the deflation you have experienced around your neck and jawline. From here they will make well concealed incisions around the ears and below the chin allowing them to trim the muscle and fat tissues along with any excess skin before pulling it all back in place for a refreshed and rejuvenated result.

Treatment Questions

The below are a selection of questions we are commonly asked in regards to suitability and the type of treatment needed.

Do I need a facelift?

This is a decision that you must make.

When we talk to you we will explain what the procedure involves and we will help you to visualise what its results will be using 3D Imaging.

We will explain how long it may take to recover and any risks there may be. We will advise you if we feel there is an alternative treatment that may be more appropriate.

We will encourage you to think about your reasons for wanting surgery and we show you the benefits that it can bring.

We answer any questions you have to support you as you come to a decision.

But it is a decision you must make.

Why has my face changed?

Here is what happens to your face and neck as you age:

  1. Your skin loses its elasticity as you get older.
  2. There is a loss of volume in the midface.
  3. At the same time the soft tissues of your neck and face begin to descend.

The cumulative effect of this is that your cheeks begin to become less prominent, the lines deepen between your nose and mouth, your jawline sags, jowls start to appear and the skin of your neck gathers and falls in loose folds.

Typically the heart shaped face that we associate with youth is replaced by something rather more stolid and square, and the bright eyed look becomes rather more hooded as the eyelids gradually drape.

It is this change in appearance that convinces many to ask us for a neck and facelift procedure. And what a difference it can make. In the video below you can see how just four weeks after surgery with Dr Phoon or Dr Moradi the jawline and neck of this Park Clinic patient has been totally transformed. These natural looking results may be attainable in less than a month but their profound, rejuvenating effect can last for years.

What happens during a facelift?

Neck and facelift surgery requires a general anaesthetic and usually lasts between 4-5 hours.

Dr Phoon and Dr Moradi use the latest fat grafting techniques to reverse some of the deflation effects of aging in conjunction with your facelift. This restores some of the volume and improves the skin quality around the face.

They will then correct the other features of aging with well concealed incisions around the ears and below the chin. The skin of your face and neck can now be carefully lifted from the tissue and muscle and fat can be trimmed from around the neck and chin to give shape to the jawline. The underlying muscle and tissue is tightened and then the skin is pulled back, and any excess removed.

Do I really need surgery?

Whilst you have been researching facelifts you will, no doubt, have come across those practices that offer injections or threads only.

A treatment that relies on no surgery at all is an appealing prospect, isn’t it?

At Park Clinic we offer the full range of surgical and non-surgical treatments so that the very best treatment plan can be customised to you. We believe that non-surgical or injection techniques are great. They are great at helping you postpone surgery, but you need an expert to assess whether or not such interventions are going to effectively offer the rejuvenation that you seek.

Sometimes you need an expert to help you understand that anti-wrinkle injections and fillers can only do so much before you are left with a face that looks unnatural, swollen and featureless without definition.

It is true: you may not need surgery, but you do need to talk to an expert who is qualified to judge this.

When is a facelift appropriate?

There are no hard and fast rules: that’s why we always consult with you before we make any decisions.

Here are some of the physical signs that can mean a neck and facelift may be just what you need to achieve a naturally younger looking face:

  • Creases below the lower eyelids that have deepened over time.
  • Creases that deepen along the nose and extending to the corners of the mouth.
  • Decent of mid-facial fat.
  • Decrease in jawline definition, with increased jaw skin.
  • Facial skin sagging, especially in the middle of the face.
  • Loss of facial volume, with a “hanging” of skin/fat/volume around the lower part of the face.

Do I need both a neck and facelift?

Again this is a decision we can help you make, but one that lies very much with you. It all depends on what you want to achieve.

We do not ever have a template that we work to: every procedure is unique. We listen to what you want, we assess what is possible and we make a recommendation based on that.

However, it is very rare for a facelift to be performed without a neck lift, or vice versa.

The effects of ageing can usually be seen on both the upper and lower face. But occasionally either a neck lift or a facelift is not required. In such cases we can offer you an upper facelift (with no neck lift) or a lower facelift (i.e. just a neck lift).

When a neck lift is performed alone, the recovery time and the healing of any scars tend to be a little shorter than when it is combined with a facelift.

What is a mini lift?

Another surgical procedure you may come across is a mini lift. These are often enquired about along with short scar technique facelifts as both are essentially variations on a theme. They both result in a shorter scar behind the ears which makes them a very attractive proposition.

As ever the truth is not quite as clear cut. Where it is going to be more effective for you to have a mini lift (or short scar) we will discuss it as an option. Where it may not be, we will explain why. As 95% of the scars are hidden the scar is not as important as using the right technique.

The key to lasting beautiful results is helping you to understand what is the right treatment for you.

Will I need eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is quite commonly performed with a facelift. If your eyelids have become hooded this can be treated at the same time as the rest of your face.

The Procedure

Who are the best candidates for Neck and Face lifts

Both men and women alike enjoy the self-esteem boost that a facelift provides. There is no matter of age when considering either treatment and the question of “Am I too young?” needn’t be considered. It is not true that whoever feels they need a facelift actually does. To make the decision easier there are some tell-tail signs that you might be suitable for a Neck and Face Lift:

  • Creases below the lower eyelids that have deepened over time.
  • Creases that deepen along the nose and extending to the corners of the mouth.
  • Decent of mid-facial fat.
  • Decrease in jawline definition, with increased jaw skin.
  • Facial skin sagging, especially in the middle of the face.
  • Loss of facial volume, with a “hanging” of skin/fat/volume around the lower part of the face.

Do I need both at the same time?

It is very rare that a facelift or neck-lift will be performed on its own; this is to ensure you achieve results on both the upper and lower face. There are some times and some patients that will only require one or the other and this will be discussed in detail in your consultation.

How much does it cost?

Facelift costs vary by individual needs. It is impossible to give you a catch-all figure for a bespoke surgical procedure, but you can expect to pay around $15,000-$20,000.

The costs break down as follows:

  • Anesthesia fees
  • Private hospital or Outpatient surgical facility fees
  • Insurance coverage percentages
  • Additional facial plastic surgical procedures
  • Surgical assistant’s fee

Consultation and 3D imaging

When you first meet Dr Phoon or Dr Moradi they will outline your options, the procedure, the recovery and any risks you should be aware of. They will help you visualise how you will look using the latest 3D imaging technology.

By spending time talking to you and answering your questions Dr Phoon or Dr Moradi will ensure that, should you decide to go ahead, nothing will come as a surprise.

Your procedure will take place in one of Sydney’s best plastic surgical hospitals, such as East Sydney Private Hospital, Castlecrag hospital or St Luke’s Private Hospital. It will involve a general anaesthetic and take approximately 4-5 hours.

Whilst it is possible to have your facelift as day surgery most patients feel more comfortable having an overnight stay. During this time you will be attended to 24 hours a day by expert hospital nursing staff.

Small drains that are inserted in the course of your surgery will stay in until the next day when they will be removed. All the sutures are removed within 10 days.

Since the incisions are made along the hairline, the scars generated from a facelift are generally undetectable. The recovery time is commonly two to three weeks. Final results become obvious as the healing time increases, with optimal results visible after six to eight weeks.

What are the risks and complications?

As with all treatments there are possible risks and complications. It is important that you talk to our professional team about these and fully understand all possibilities when considering treatment.
